TRAINING

NYAS is a leading training provider in the field of advocacy and children's rights. We have delivered advocacy training for over 25 years, building an impressive portfolio of courses which are available to agencies. For more details on the current available courses click on the drop down box on the left hand side of this page.

NYAS trainers are highly experienced and have a range of backgrounds including social work, child protection, residential care, social care inspection, fostering and teaching. Young people are involved in the delivery and planning of training and receive training support. Our goal is for all training to be co-delivered with young trainers.

Alongside the delivery of training courses, NYAS is regularly invited to speak at national and local conferences. The award is aimed towards people who would like to increase their understanding of advocacy and/or develop skills essential to providing advocacy support to young people. It is particularly appropriate for people who are entering the field of advocacy and would like to complete a comprehensive course covering the significant areas within advocacy. It is also relevant to advocates, social worker's, participation workers and children's rights officers who would like gain an accredited award and build on existing advocacy skills.

The course content includes;

  • What is advocacy
  • The role and process of advocacy
  • The three cornerstones of advocacy; child led, independence and confidentiality
  • Children's rights
  • Ethics and principles underpinning advocacy
  • Practical challenges and dilemmas

Courses will be running across the year in different venues around England and Wales. They are residential events and are limited in number to 20 people. The full cost per person is £500 which includes training materials, accreditation and residential accommodation/meals. (Voluntary organisations can apply for a limited discounted rate of £400) If you would like further details regarding the location please contact Eleanor.Harrison on eleanor.harrison@nyas.net.

The accredited advocacy course is also available to agencies to 'buy in' for their staff.
