In our daily lives and work, we all use advocacy skills, often without realising it. Using mental health advocacy skills in practice can help with meaningful engagement, enabling advocacy partners we are working alongside to find and amplify their voices.

This course is recommended for staff and volunteers working alongside individuals living with mental health issues and conditions.

Mental Health Advocacy explained:

Applying mental health advocacy engagement skills enables us to understand how to promote the views, wishes and feelings of our advocacy partners more effectively, empowering them towards enhanced self-advocacy. This training explores how to develop improved mental health advocacy engagement techniques, gain confidence navigating complex health, education and care systems, and make more informed rights-based decisions.

Course content

Upon completion of this training, learners will:

  • develop a clear understanding of mental health advocacy
  • recognise how to channel skills to engage and empower the voices of your advocacy partners towards self-advocacy and increased understanding of their rights
  • explore the balance between wishes, feelings, and best interests during your work
  • reflect on when, where, and how you can effectively use your enhanced and transferable mental health advocacy skills
  • identify when it’s appropriate to transition into signposting to other specialist services or support.

This Mental Health Advocacy Engagement Skills training will be delivered via a live, interactive webinar. The training session will be delivered by a member of our highly experienced training team.
