As with all types of advocacy, residential visiting advocacy aims to promote the wishes, thoughts, and feelings of care experienced children and young people. This becomes particularly relevant in residential settings, like children's homes, where multiple children live under one roof, often outside of their normal Local Authority area.

This course is recommended for advocacy professionals who already undertake residential visiting advocacy, or advocates wishing to develop their understanding to be able to do so.

Residential Visiting Advocacy Explained

Residential visiting advocacy promotes the voice and lived experiences of children and young people who live in residential homes. Advocates ensure their rights are upheld and respect the national advocacy standards and the quality standards for children’s homes. Residential visiting advocates work with young people on individual issues or collectively as a group within homes.

Residential visiting advocates are independent of the home. They are purely there for the young people who reside at the home. Having one advocate assigned to the home ensures consistency and helps to build and maintain relationships with young people.
