Understanding Our Mission
At NYAS, we listen to what children and young people want. We care about what they say, and we empower them to have their voices heard, especially when other people are making decisions about their future.
As part of our mission, we ensure that the wishes and feelings of care-experienced young people are expressed and acted upon. The aim of this is to improve their situation, and to help them build a better future.
NYAS will never stop in our efforts to influence, lobby and campaign for positive change. Through all that we do, we want to ensure that the rights of every child, young person and adult are understood and upheld.
The NYAS Vision
Our vision is simple. We believe three very clear things:
- Every child and young person has the right to be heard
- Every child and young person has a right to feel safe
- Every child and young person has the right to be involved in decisions being made about them.
The NYAS vision runs across every project and service that we deliver as we aim to protect and empower care-experienced young people and adults.
The NYAS Values Statement
We have four very clear values at NYAS which permeate every part of our work. When combined, our values make up the acronym CARE, reminding our team to care about one another, and that we fight to improve the experience of care-experienced children across England and Wales.
- Collaborative: We work closely with colleagues and partners across relevant sectors to deliver an outstanding service to children, young people and adults who need our support.
- Accountable: We are open, transparent and accountable. Here at NYAS, we take responsibility for what we do.
- Respectful: We value and respect each other and the people we work with by embracing diversity and nurturing trust.
- Empowering: We listen to children and young people when they are not being heard. To help, we inform them of their rights and empower them to change their lives for the better.
