Throughout England and Wales, too often care-experienced children and young people’s belongings are moved with little dignity and respect. In many cases, their most personal items are simply thrown into bin-bags ready to be moved. Although practise has improved within some local authorities, the young people NYAS works with are telling us that this is still happening, with their items regularly lost or damaged in the process. This cannot continue.
NYAS will be campaigning to make sure all children and young people’s belongings are moved with dignity and respect between these placements. We are eager to hear from children and young people of all ages and the professionals who work closely with them. This is why NYAS is launching our Belongings and Moving Surveys and our Belongings and Moving Workbook for Under-11’s.
The surveys and workbook will help inform our flagship campaign on this issue, making sure that care-experienced children and young people’s belongings are moved with respect and dignity.
