NYAS’ Modern Slavery Statement

Slavery and Human Trafficking remains a hidden blight on our global society. We all have a responsibility to be alert to the risks in our organisation and in the wider supply chain.

At NYAS, there is zero-tolerance towards modern slavery and human trafficking, and all forms of bribery and corruption associated with these criminal activities. NYAS is committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our organisation and work to ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory responsibilities including the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and relevant legislation.

Governance and policies

The Board of Trustees has overall responsibility for ensuring this statement complies with our legal and ethical obligations, and that it is reviewed on an annual basis. The Executive team are responsible for compliance within their respective departments and in their supplier relationships.  Management is responsible for raising awareness and implementing the relevant policies.

NYAS regularly reviews our Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking policy and any relevant and linked policies and procedures that will support our zero-tolerance position around modern slavery.  We have very strong safeguarding, data protection, health and safety, whistleblowing, supervision/management practices and procedures to identify and eradicate modern slavery.

NYAS also has legal professionals and advocates who can provide employees, volunteers and service users with advice about any modern slavery or human trafficking issues that are personally affecting them or their families.

Procurement and supply chains

Our supply chains include mainly IT and communication providers, stationers, suppliers of electrical equipment, computer equipment and white goods, building owners and managers and caterers. We have not identified any high-risk suppliers to date, however we remain vigilant and continue to review all of our suppliers and their practices. We expect our supply chain providers to have suitable anti-slavery and human trafficking policies and processes. We are currently revising our procurement procedures and policies and our current and new contracts with suppliers, ensuring that our core beliefs and values are in line with the values and practices of those in our supply chains.

Recruitment

NYAS has a rigorous safer recruitment process. Our recruitment practices include ‘right to work’ checks for all prospective employees. This ensures we maintain close inspection of those entering our employment and prevents the occurrence of forced or involuntary labour.

Training and continuous development

Our induction and training practices ensure that employees, contractors and volunteers are aware of our framework of rules and behaviours, encouraging the reporting of any concerns or breaches so that they can be dealt with appropriately in accordance with our policies and procedures.

Reporting suspicions of slavery

You can report any suspicions of slavery either through the NYAS Whistleblowing policy or externally to the Modern Slavery Helpline.
