Leaving care or transitioning towards independence can be a complex time and process for care leavers. They may not be aware of the different levels of support that exist, or about their eligibility rights as care leavers.

This course is recommended for practitioners and anyone wishing to develop their understanding about working with young people who are leaving care and transitioning towards independence.

Leaving Care or Transitioning Towards Independence: Explained

Striking out into the world on your own for the first time can be exciting as you discover your newfound independence, but it can also be a time of great uncertainty for care experienced young people who are about leave the care system.

Care leaver entitlements vary across local authorities, so it's important that the professionals supporting young people can help them to discover what they're entitled to, and that their rights continue to be upheld into adulthood.

 

Course Content

Upon completion of this training, learners will:

  • Be familiar with key legislation and statutory guidance relevant to care leavers
  • Understand the context of care leaver support in England and Wales
  • Recognise the importance of a positive transition for care leavers moving towards independence as well as for those moving into adult care
  • Recognise the importance of the views of care leavers

This care leaver support training will be delivered via a live, interactive webinar. The training session will be delivered by a member of our highly experienced training team.
