NYAS, as part of a collective of 28 other homelessness organisations and service providers, has today (19th November) submitted a letter addressed to the Chancellor of the Exchequer calling on the Government to continue the ‘remarkable’ work of ‘Everyone In’ by committing to significant investment in its Spending Review later this month.
The letter calls for Ministers to ensure that the level of investment in homelessness and rough sleeping seen this year is maintained. It also requests that the nearly £1bn of funding that has been cut from what councils can spend on homelessness every year is restored in full.
Jamie Pope, Chief Operating Officer, said “Homelessness is one of the key issues faced by care experienced young people as they transition to independence. The combination of being underprepared to live independently, confused about their rights and obligations, lonely and isolated have made homelessness the painful reality for too many care leavers.
To prevent this from happening, it’s crucial that the Chancellor should not short-change vulnerable rough sleepers of all ages in his spending review later this month as nobody should have to face homelessness in today’s society.”
