The Appropriate Adult service is for children and young people presenting as Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) to Cardiff Children’s Services.

Our trained Appropriate Adults are independent from social services and the Home Office. Their job is to make sure that the meeting is run fairly and the wellbeing and needs of children and young people are met.

Wales recognises the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which means that while children and young people are in Wales, they should be able to enjoy life ‘as a child’.

The appropriate adult will also provide information about rights and can challenge the decision of the age assessment if the child or young person is not happy.

Our Appropriate Adult support can also signpost to other relevant services that can help.
