What are Parliamentary Inquiries and Consultations?
Before new laws or policies are introduced, it is common for parliamentary inquiries and consultations to be launched. The purpose of these inquiries and consultations is to gather evidence from expert groups and organisations which will inform the decision making process.
As a leading children’s rights charity, it is our job to respond to any relevant parliamentary inquiries that are looking to make changes that will impact the care-experienced children, young people and vulnerable adults that we support.
Submitting Industry Leading Evidence
The type of evidence NYAS submits depends on the parliamentary inquiry or consultation itself. We endeavour to submit the type of evidence that will be of the most benefit to policy makers whilst they are making key decisions about the lives of care-experienced children and young people.
Sometimes, our submissions centre around the lived experiences of the care-experienced children and young people we support if they give their permission for us to share their stories. On other occasions, we will choose to use information from one of the NYAS research projects we have carried out for a research series or campaign.
Parliamentary Inquiries for Positive Change
As a care-experienced child or young person, how does it help you if NYAS responds to parliamentary inquiries and consultations?
As a leading children’s rights charity, we speak to and support over 10,000 children and young people every year. This means that we have a lot of experiences and insight to share which will be beneficial for those making decisions that will affect care experienced children and young people.
Quite simply, we wouldn’t be doing our job well on behalf of the thousands of young people we support every year if we did not contribute to these parliamentary inquiries. If we just sat on our expertise without sharing it, we would be doing them a disservice.
