NYAS is working to create "a society where every child, young person or vulnerable adult's voice is heard and their rights are respected and where they can achieve their potential."

To do this we need support to provide activities and services not funded through statutory provision. This mean we need you help as an individual as well as help from companies and charitable trusts and foundations.

Martyn Best, Managing Director of Document DirectWhy I donate to NYAS

‘Our influence on the future is one of our greatest responsibilities.

My own children have been fortunate to receive support and advice during their lives, and I became aware that far too many young people do not receive that natural parental and family guidance.

NYAS bridge that gap and give inspirational intervention which has a positive impact on the future of those young lives and makes such a significant difference – and so NYAS became a natural charity of choice for me’.

Martyn Best, Managing Director of Document Direct

OUR CURRENT PRIORITIES

NYAS Helpline
Many referrals to NYAS come in via our helpline. The Helpline provides access to advocates, lawyers and other support services for vulnerable children and young people.

“NYAS was the only organisation that didn’t make me feel fobbed off when I came off the phone from speaking with them.”

Legal Advice and Representation
We provide free legal advice and representation for children and young people who fall outside the statutory legal aid guidelines and there are more and more of them every day. We currently provide this service unpaid, but we’d like to do more. Funding will help us to pay for legal fees and counsel.

"The NYAS caseworkers report was extremely helpful. The judge specifically singled it out for praise describing it as erudite, thoughtful and very full and comprehensive. He also praised the manner in which the caseworker had fairly analysed the issues"

Independent Visiting
To add to the limited budget provided by local authorities we want to create a fund to allow our volunteers to occasionally do something extra special during their visits – new experiences, which will build confidence.

“I like how my independent Visitor isn’t anything to do with social services and she is here to support me not to judge.”

Participation
Over the past year we’ve listened to children and young people in care and acted on what they tell us. Help us to continue to influence decision makers and find ways to help children to advise NYAS and make positive changes.

"Being part of this project was amazing. I enjoyed meeting new people. I learnt technical things and built a lot of confidence. It was absolutely amazing"

A Louder and Stronger Voice
We need to extend our campaigning and policy work, impacting more widely, listening to children, acting and influencing on their behalf. Every child, and every young person should have a right to an advocate should they need one.

“NYAS was the only organisation that listened to me and to my brother”
