What are Parliamentary Inquiries and Consultations?

Before new laws or policies are introduced, it is common for parliamentary inquiries and consultations to be launched. The purpose of these inquiries and consultations is to gather evidence from expert groups and organisations which will inform the decision making process.

As a leading children’s rights charity, it is our job to respond to any relevant parliamentary inquiries that are looking to make changes that will impact the care-experienced children, young people and vulnerable adults that we support.

Parliamentary Inquiries for Positive Change

As a care-experienced child or young person, how does it help you if NYAS responds to parliamentary inquiries and consultations?

As a leading children’s rights charity, we have a lot of experiences and insight to share which will be beneficial for those making decisions that will affect care-experienced children and young people.

Quite simply, we wouldn’t be doing our job well on behalf of the thousands of young people we support every year if we did not contribute to these parliamentary inquiries. If we just sat on our expertise without sharing it, we would be doing them a disservice.

Looking For Help?

NYAS are always available to support care experienced children and young people. This includes providing supporting evidence for any parliamentary inquiries they bring to our attention, or they want to raise themselves.

If you are a care experienced child or young person, or you’re working with someone who is, NYAS can support you with the following:

  • Responding to a specific parliamentary inquiry or consultation
  • Responding to an inquiry or consultation you are writing by yourself
  • Addressing any thoughts or questions about past or upcoming inquiries or consultations
  • Listening to your own personal experiences so we can include your story within a submission

For any of the situations above, or if you want to discuss our submissions to parliamentary inquiries and consultations, you can email policy@nyas.net
