Children’s rights and entitlements are important because they protect their well-being, ensure access to opportunities and services, and empower them to have a voice in decisions that affect their lives.

This course is recommended for advocacy professionals who already undertake rights-based advocacy with care-experienced children and young people, or advocates wishing to develop their understanding to be able to do so.

Supporting Care-Experienced Children and Young People with their Rights and Entitlements: Explained

Care-experienced children and young people (and those deemed in need) have many rights and entitlements, which they don't often know about or understand. Understanding rights and entitlements is fundamental for children and young people, especially those who are care-experienced, as such rights support them in navigating systems and accessing opportunities.

Empowering care-experienced children and young people, and children in need, to understand their rights and entitlements relating to Local Authority processes is one of the many ways advocates can help their voices be heard.
